YSCU, Wahengbam Leikai Women’s body demand probe into Tronglaobi attack

The Young Socio-Cultural Union (YSCU) and the Wahengbam Leikai Yumjao Lairembi Apunba Nupi Lup Development Association on Monday raised questions over the responses issued by certain organisations following the recent attack on civilians at Tronglaobi, which claimed the lives of two minor children and left their mother injured.
Addressing reporters at Manipur Press Club, representatives of the two organisations expressed grief and anger over the April 7 incident, terming it a “brutal act” against innocent civilians. They questioned the rationale behind the clarification issued by the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) distancing itself from the incident soon after it occurred, and described the response as “hurried”.
They also pointed out that similar statements denying involvement were issued the following day by the United Kuki National Army (UKNA) and groups under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) arrangement, including KNO/UPF. The organisations raised suspicion over the sequence of these responses and alleged possible involvement of Kuki militant groups, while calling for clarity from the authorities.
The groups further questioned the lack of transparency regarding the investigation into the incident, stating that the absence of clear information has led to growing concern and distrust among the public.
Referring to the subsequent protest, the organisations also expressed concern over the use of force against civilians, stating that the reported firing incident has raised serious questions.
Placing a set of demands, the organisations called for an immediate, independent, and time-bound judicial inquiry into both the bomb attack and the subsequent firing incident. They also sought accountability of those responsible, transparency in the investigation process, and adequate compensation and support for the victims and their families.
Appealing to civil society organisations across Manipur, the groups urged unity and collective action, stating that a coordinated and peaceful movement is necessary to seek justice and accountability.
They further cautioned that continued delays in delivering justice could intensify public response, while reiterating their commitment to pursue the issue until accountability is ensured.
