Kabui Union Manipur faces internal row over leadership

An internal dispute has surfaced within Kabui Union Manipur over leadership authority and alleged financial irregularities, following a press statement issued by the organisation.
The Union stated that the removal of its President cannot be carried out without a General Body decision, asserting that Dr. Heera Kabui continues to hold the post legitimately. It termed attempts to remove him as unlawful and indicated that legal action may be taken.
The statement alleged that during the tenure of former General Secretary Athoi Kamei, financial records were not properly presented and funds were withdrawn from the Union’s bank account without the President’s knowledge.
An emergency executive meeting held after the Foundation Day programme on March 25, 2026 reportedly removed Athoi Kamei and Lalbon Longmei from their respective positions.
Reiterating that organisational assets must remain under the custody of the President, the Union stated that it remains committed to safeguarding the interests and identity of the community.
