A ten-day workshop focused on finalizing six translated academic texts into Manipuri kicked off today at the Seminar Hall of the Physics Department, Manipur University, Canchipur. The initiative, aimed at promoting multilingual education, began at 10:00 AM and is being organized by CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (NIScPR) under the National Translation Mission (NTM), CIIL, Mysuru, Ministry of Education.
The workshop will review translated materials in Mechanical Engineering, Zoology, Education, and Popular Science, with the goal of enhancing accessibility for students and scholars in remote regions. Twenty-two subject experts from various disciplines—including Physics, Chemistry, and Education—alongside Manipuri language specialists, are participating. Two resource persons from NTM are also contributing to the discussions.
The inaugural session was led by Prof. A. Dilip Singh, Head of Physics, who highlighted the importance of regional language resources in academic growth. Dr. Tariq Khan, Programme Coordinator of NTM, joined virtually to express his support and optimism.
Distinguished retired professors, including Prof. P. Nabachandra Singh and Prof. S. Dorendrajit Singh, also attended, lending their experience to the initiative. The workshop is expected to significantly advance the availability of quality educational content in Manipuri.
