EYOL calls for simple, meaningful Ningol Chakkouba celebrations

The Enat Yokhatpa Luptin, Manipur (EYOL) has appealed to the people to celebrate Ningol Chakkouba with love, affection and mutual respect while avoiding extravagant expenditure and unnecessary financial burdens in the name of tradition.

Speaking at a press meet held at the NIPCO office, Keishamthong, Imphal, on Wednesday, EYOL General Secretary M. Dhananjoy extended festival greetings to all Ningols and described Ningol Chakkouba as an important occasion for strengthening family bonds.

Expressing concern over growing financial showmanship during traditional and social celebrations, he said excessive spending, unnecessary borrowing and competition in exchanging expensive gifts were affecting the economic stability of families.

He urged people not to use customs, religious practices and traditions as justification for spending beyond their financial capacity. Instead, he called for celebrations based on simplicity, responsible spending and the use of locally available products.

EYOL stressed that the true significance of Ningol Chakkouba lies in strengthening the bond between brothers and sisters rather than lavish arrangements or expensive gifts. It appealed to the public to preserve the festival’s traditional values and promote family solidarity and social harmony through meaningful celebrations.
