The Manipur University Working Women Association organised a one-day national seminar on “Women and Social Transformation in India: Experiences and Challenges (NSWST 2026)” along with the observance of International Women’s Day at the Court Hall of Manipur University.
The programme was attended by Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University, Prof. N. Lokendra; Vice-Chancellor of Assam Women’s University, Prof. Ajanta Borgohain Rajkonwar; Presiding Officer of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), Manipur University, Prof. R.K. Lonibala; and MUWWA President Prof. Memcha Loitongbam, among other distinguished guests.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Memcha Loitongbam stated that although women have made significant progress in various fields, crimes against women and girl children continue to persist. She observed that despite global advancements, different forms of violence and crimes against women and children are increasing day by day.
She emphasised the need to educate women about preventive measures and safeguard mechanisms against such crimes. Highlighting the vital role of women in building a strong society, she stressed the importance of awareness regarding rights, duties and responsibilities among women. The seminar, she said, was organised with the objective of promoting such awareness.
Experts from various fields participated in the seminar and deliberated on the roles and responsibilities of women in society. The programme also features three technical sessions focusing on different themes, where experts will share insights on addressing and overcoming the challenges faced by women in contemporary times.
In the meantime GP Womens College also organised International Women’s Day at the Library hall. The function attended Prof L Rajen Principal GP Women’s college, and teachers.
