MNYO condemns social boycott imposed on MP Alfred Arthur

IT News
Imphal, Aug 7:

The Manipur Naga Youth Organization, Headquarters (MNYO-HQ), has expressed strong disapproval of the recent actions taken by Meitei Leepun and My Manipur in imposing a social boycott on Alfred Kanngam Arthur, the newly elected Member of Parliament representing the 2-Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency. MNYO-HQ advocates for respectful dialogue and the preservation of mutual understanding among Manipur’s diverse communities.
A Press release by the MNYO said, “Meitei Leepun and My Manipur should have exercised greater caution before issuing a social boycott statement against the Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), Alfred Kanngam Arthur. MNYO-HQ holds these groups accountable for any potential harm that may befall Mr. Arthur as a result of their actions.”
MNYO-HQ advises Meitei Leepun and My Manipur to refrain from making such irresponsible statements in the future, regardless of the sentiments within the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency, to prevent unnecessary social discord between the hills and the valley. It is noteworthy that Alfred Arthur has consistently raised pertinent issues in Parliament through democratic means, advocating for peace and order in Manipur in the interest of all affected communities.
The organization is deeply concerned by the misinterpretation of Mr. Arthur’s statements by certain groups, which seems to be inciting unnecessary tension. MNYO-HQ clarifies that Mr. Arthur has never advocated for a separate Kuki homeland or separate administration in his speeches. The actions of Meitei Leepun and My Manipur appear to be fostering confusion and social discord among the people of Manipur. This social boycott is seen as not only an attack on Mr. Arthur but also a direct affront to all constituents of the 2-Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.
MNYO-HQ urges Meitei Leepun and My Manipur to respect the areas of influence of other communities and engage in constructive civil discourse rather than issuing social boycotts, which undermine the rights of an MP as a responsible lawmaker. It is crucial for any social organization to exercise extra caution to avoid misunderstandings that may arise in the current volatile situation.
The Manipur Naga Youth Organization, Headquarters, calls for the immediate retraction of the social boycott statement against Alfred Kanngam S. Arthur. MNYO-HQ asserts that Meitei Leepun and My Manipur lack the authority to declare such a boycott against a representative of the people of the 2-Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency. The organization reiterates its commitment to advocating for the rights and interests of Manipur Nagas in the pursuit of peace and justice.
