Imphal, Aug 7:
Students and teachers of Keishamthong Model School staged a protest against excessive monetary demands from various groups. Speaking to Imphal Times, a staff member of the school revealed that different organizations have been demanding large sums of money from the school staff and teachers. “Some claim to be underground organizations, others say they are village defenders, and some present themselves as civil society organizations fighting for Manipur,” a staff member stated.
The staff reported that as many as seven different groups have approached the school, making demands that are unbearable for the teachers and staff. This has caused significant concern among parents, who worry that the disturbances are negatively impacting the students. “When teachers are distracted by these monetary demands, how can they focus on teaching?” a staff member questioned.
Keishamthong Model School, a government high school with over 700 students, is renowned for its academic excellence, having produced rank holders in the Class X exams conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur. The ongoing monetary demands threaten the school’s ability to maintain its high standards.
