As part of the World Breastfeeding Week celebration (August 1 to August 7, 2025), the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Imphal East, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal, today organised a programme on the theme “Prioritize Breastfeeding – Create Sustainable Support System” at the KVK Conference Hall, Andro.
Dr. Y. Prabhabati Devi, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK, Imphal East District, addressed the gathering and highlighted the critical importance of breastfeeding for both infants and mothers. She stated that breastfeeding offers numerous health benefits, provides optimal nutrition, and fosters strong emotional bonds between mothers and their newborns.
“Breastfeeding is one of the most powerful ways to give babies a healthy start in life. It supplies all the nutrients an infant needs in the first six months and continues to support their development as solid foods are introduced,” Dr. Prabhabati said. She added that breast milk is more than just nourishment—it offers complete protection, comfort, and emotional connection.
She also underscored the benefits of breastfeeding for mothers, including faster recovery after childbirth and a significantly reduced risk of serious health conditions such as breast cancer.
An interactive session followed the programme, involving an ICDS supervisor and around 30 Anganwadi workers and helpers. The event served as a platform to share knowledge and experiences, reinforcing the need for a sustainable support system to promote breastfeeding practices at the grassroots level.
