Three-Day Training programme on Natural Colour Dyeing concludes in Chandel

A three-day training programme on natural colour dyeing, organised by the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Chandel under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) Scheme, concluded today at the Lambung Community Hall in Chandel district.
The valedictory function was attended by Dr. N. Munal Meitei, DFO Chandel, as Chief Guest. J.S. Anagam, President of the Japhou Bazar Board, and the President of the Maha Area Chiefs Association graced the occasion as Guests of Honour. The event was presided over by L.H. Noah, Chief of Lambung Village. St. Wanhring, Chief Trainer, and St. Vega, Headmaster of Lambung Primary School, were also present.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. N. Munal Meitei appreciated the active participation of 43 trainees and highlighted the significance of the training in promoting self-reliance through natural resource-based economic activities. He said the programme aimed to help participants identify and utilise locally available resources to build sustainable livelihoods.
He pointed out that with 92 percent of Chandel district comprising hilly terrain, such initiatives are essential for improving the region’s economic resilience. He further encouraged trainees to view the training as a stepping stone toward transforming their livelihoods through skill development.
Dr. Munal also cautioned against the use of chemical dyes, noting their harmful health effects, including potential links to urinary bladder cancer. He explained that darker shades produced by synthetic dyes often contain dangerous substances, and urged participants to refrain from using non-permitted chemical dyes—especially in items associated with food or personal use, such as those in the hospitality industry.
Encouraging the trainees to apply their newly acquired skills at home and within their communities, he stressed the value of inclusive growth. He appealed to both employed and unemployed individuals to take advantage of such opportunities to improve their economic well-being through sustainable and eco-friendly practices. He also encouraged employees to become employers.
