Proscribed group – People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) condole the demise of the party Interim Council member Major Sanju Oinam @ Pheijao @ Premjit @ Athouba due to an illness.
In a statement by Leibaakngakpa Luwang , Charge-de Affairs’ , Publicity & Propaganda of PREPAK, Major Sanju Oinam succumbed to the illness on August 18, 2022 while undergoing treatment in a hospital.
“Major Sanju departure will leave a vacuum to the freedom movement of the party”, the statement said.
The statement said that Major Sanju was born on April 16, 1976 (Friday) at Haobam Marak Irom Leikai in Imphal West district as the eldest son of Oinam Saratchandra Meitei and Oinam Ongbi Sanahanbi Leima. He is among the 6 children of his parents (4 sons and 2 daughters). He studied till class IX at Regular English School, Kwakeithel Heinou Khongnembi, and later shifted to Kha Imphal High School where he completed his class X. Later he completed Pharmacist course at Bihar and started supporting his family.
Since his childhood Major Sanju was sports admirer and has taken part in many sports events. He is as Blue Belt in Karate and won many medals in the events of his category in both National and State championship. He had taken up many welfare programme of his locality by becoming an Executive member of Naharol Yaipha Lamjing Kol, Haobam Marak Irom Leikai.
The essence of his patriotism and the frustration of how Manipur was occupied by India, Major Sanju started connecting the leaders of the PREPAK and started working of the outfit as an over ground worker in 1994.
In 1995 Major Sanju was arrested by Manipur Police Commando and detained him for 14 months under NSA.
After his released, he again contacted with the PREPAK leaders and he was arrested and detained 8 months in judicial custody in December 1996. Again in November 1997 he was arrested and detained for 5 months at Imphal Central Jail. He was tried to arrest twice after released but managed to free after getting bail.
The statement added that, unable to tolerate the harassment meted out to him he left his home and in July 2003 he underwent Basic Military Training of the Red Army. He was friendly with the Red Army of PREPAK during his training and maintain discipline of the Party.
Major Sanju was assigned as Publicity Officer of PREPAK to the department of Publicity and Propaganda. He took responsibility in bridging communication between the media and the party and later he also become a member of the Polit Bureau (PB).
Besides, Major Sanju also took additional charge of becoming the Financial Affairs’ Committee (FAC), Publicity Committee and Home Committee of CorCom, the PREPAK statement said and added that the PREPAK and its Red Army share the pain and sorrow of the family members of Major Sanju and pray to rest in peace for the departed soul.
