As the auspicious occasion of Ningol Chakouba approaches, the Governor of Manipur, Lakshman Prasad Acharya, along with Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly Th. Satyabrata Singh, and various ministers, have extended their heartfelt greetings to the people of Manipur.
Governor Acharya conveyed his warm wishes to the people, especially to married women, emphasizing the unique significance of Ningol Chakouba—a festival celebrated annually on the second day of the New Moon in the Manipuri month of Hiyangei. He noted that this festival fosters familial bonds, as brothers invite their married sisters to a feast at their parental homes and offer ‘Dhakshina’. He highlighted the festival’s role in strengthening social ties across diverse communities, noting its positive reception from various groups who have embraced its ethos.
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh echoed these sentiments, calling Ningol Chakouba one of Manipur’s biggest festivals. He reflected on the state’s rich cultural tapestry and the festival’s importance in reinforcing love between siblings and parental care for married daughters. He urged everyone to let the spirit of Ningol Chakouba inspire unity and togetherness among all communities.
In his message, Speaker Th. Satyabrata Singh praised Ningol Chakouba as a grand tribute to women, recognizing their essential role in families and society. He expressed hope that on this special day, women would be surrounded by the unconditional love of their families.
Education and Law Minister Th. Basantakumar Singh shared his heartfelt greetings, emphasizing the festival’s cultural significance in promoting unity and mutual respect. He encouraged families to cherish their relationships during this time of reunion and celebration.
Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh, Minister of Medical, Health & Family Welfare, also extended his best wishes, highlighting the festival’s symbolism of love and unity among brothers and sisters. He urged people to embrace the spirit of harmony and break down barriers of disparity, wishing for peace and prosperity across the state.
