EYOL organises Community Meet at Heirok to address rising social concerns

IT News
Thoubal, April 5:

In a move to tackle rising social issues and encourage accountability among the youth, Enat Yokhatpa Luptin (EYOL) convened a community gathering at Depu Mandap, Heirok Part-2 recently. The event, was jointly organised by EYOL, Fleirok Apunba Meira Paibi, Periphery Protection Force, Heirok, and the local Zilla Parishad Member.
The gathering was aimed at countering the negative trends affecting society, particularly among the younger generation, such as lack of discipline and increasing involvement in unproductive activities. The meet also focused on fostering responsible behaviour in marriage and relationships, while highlighting the need to curb unnecessary financial spending and luxury-driven lifestyles.
Speakers at the event stressed that the rapid spread of intoxicants, illegal drugs, gambling, and other immoral activities have become significant threats to the well-being of the community. They expressed deep concern over the shifting values within families and the growing disregard for traditional principles taught by elders. The gathering encouraged parents and guardians to take active roles in guiding their children and setting strong moral examples at home.
A strong appeal was made to reduce the use of unnecessary luxurious items during wedding ceremonies, which often burden families financially and promote a culture of material display over meaningful union. The community was urged to return to simpler, more traditional forms of celebration that respect cultural values and preserve the sanctity of marriage.
It was collectively resolved that the community must stand united against behaviours that disrupt peace and social harmony. The participants also expressed the urgency to revive the spirit of collective social responsibility, especially among the youth, to steer Heirok and surrounding areas towards a more disciplined and progressive future.
EYOL also reaffirmed its commitment to continuing its campaigns to combat drug abuse, protect indigenous traditions, and restore the social fabric of Manipuri society. With a firm belief in the transformative power of community solidarity, the organisers expressed hope that the gathering would serve as a catalyst for positive change not just in Heirok but across the state.
