New Delhi, Nov 4:

The Zeliangrong Meet 2024 took place successfully on November 2 at New Delhi’s Talkatora Indoor Stadium, gathering members of the Zeliangrong community to celebrate their heritage and reinforce community ties under the theme “Zeliangrong Consciousness and Resilience.” The event, organized by the Zeliangrong Students Union Delhi (ZSUD) in partnership with the Zeliangrong Welfare Association Delhi (ZWAD), saw an enthusiastic turnout of over 2,500 participants.
Prominent guests included Chief Guest Awangbow Newmai, Manipur’s Minister of Water Resources and Relief & Disaster Management, along with Guests of Honour Shri Rang Emei Gonmei, Director of Helix Design Private Limited, and Hungkeukam Nriame, Secretary of the North Cachar Hill Autonomous Council, Dima Hasao, Assam. Armstrong Same, IAS, Director in the Ministry of Education’s Department of School Education and Literacy, served as Chief Host of the event.
The Meet featured 96 Special Invitees, each honored for contributions across fields such as education, healthcare, administration, music, business, and entrepreneurship. The event unfolded in two parts: a formal session and a lively cultural showcase of music, dance, comedy, and a fashion show, spotlighting the Zeliangrong community’s artistic heritage.
A highlight of the gathering was the ceremonial lighting of the “Flame of Unity” by representatives from Zeliangrong kindred groups, symbolizing the community’s unity, deep-rooted brotherhood, and shared heritage, anchored in their ancestral village of Makuilongdi. This symbolic gesture underscored their enduring vision of uniting under one administrative unit.
In his address, Chief Guest Awangbow Newmai urged the community to safeguard ancestral lands and encouraged youth to embrace their mother tongue and focus on skill development, while using social media responsibly. Rang Emei Gonmei emphasized the creation of a common language for the community, and Hungkeukam Nriame advocated for a unified name that promotes inclusivity.
