Imphal, Jan 10:
A group of youths who appeared for the Forest Guard Recruitment Exam in 2020, later cancelled by a government order on August 23, 2023, has called on the government to reconsider conducting a new recruitment process. Speaking at the Manipur Press Club, Maharabam Somen Singh, a representative of the affected candidates, expressed deep disappointment over the government’s decision to cancel the earlier recruitment process without providing a valid reason.
Somen Singh highlighted that the written exam, conducted on February 16, 2020, as per Advertisement No. 1/2019, had over 20,000 participants. Many of these candidates, he noted, had been waiting for years with no clarity about the outcome of the recruitment process. According to him, cancelling the exam after such a long delay and planning a fresh one would sabotage the future of over 10,000 youths who had put in significant effort and resources to prepare for the exam.
He further mentioned that the ongoing crisis in the region has prevented many of the original candidates from applying for the new recruitment process. Somen Singh appealed to the government to declare the results of the earlier recruitment exam before proceeding with the new one.
The initial Forest Guard recruitment exam, announced through Advertisement No. 1/2019, was conducted as scheduled in February 2020. However, the process was abruptly halted with a cancellation order issued on August 23, 2023. Following this, the government announced plans for a fresh recruitment exam, scheduled for January 12, 2025, with a re-examination notification issued on May 3, 2023.
The cancellation and subsequent re-examination have also led to legal challenges. Several cases have been filed in the High Court of Manipur, with candidates questioning the fairness and transparency of the revised recruitment process. The court has directed the government to ensure fairness for all candidates, including those who had appeared in the earlier exam.
The affected youths continue to urge the government to prioritize the resolution of the previous recruitment process and avoid further delays or uncertainties in their employment prospects.
