Imphal, Jan 8:

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has issued a stern warning to individuals spreading rumours on social media aimed at creating communal discord. Speaking during the distribution of financial benefits to labour card holders at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, CM Biren Singh addressed the growing concern over false information being used to incite tension between communities in the state.
“I have come to know that some miscreants are spreading rumours through social media to create enmity between two communities. I have instructed concerned departments to identify the culprits,” the Chief Minister stated, reinforcing his commitment to ensure peace and communal harmony in Manipur.
The state government, he assured, is fully committed to taking stringent action against anyone found guilty of causing unrest through malicious rumours and misinformation. The Chief Minister’s comments come amidst heightened concerns over the safety and well-being of citizens, especially in the wake of recent communal tensions.
Along with addressing the issue of rumours, CM Biren Singh also highlighted the government’s ongoing relief efforts for those affected by the recent unrest. The Chief Minister announced that, as part of the relief initiatives, Rs 5000 each would be distributed to 5225 displaced individuals currently residing in relief camps. Additionally, 80 other affected individuals will receive Rs 10,000 as financial assistance.
This financial aid is part of a broader plan to offer immediate relief to families who have been displaced from their homes due to the recent crisis. CM Biren Singh assured the public that the government would continue to provide essential services and explore long-term rehabilitation measures for the displaced.
The Chief Minister also urged the public to be cautious when sharing information on social media. He appealed to citizens to verify the authenticity of news before spreading it, underlining the potential harm caused by the circulation of unverified information.
