World Heart Day was observed today at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai, Imphal, with a public awareness rally and health talks aimed at educating people about heart diseases. The programme was organised by the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation, Manipur, in collaboration with the World Heart Federation.
State President of the Organisation, Chanambam Fhanguni Singh, said World Heart Day is marked globally between September 27 and 29, with India also observing the occasion through awareness activities. In line with this, a rally was held in Imphal to spread awareness about heart-related illnesses, particularly among children.
During the event, Dr. Moirangthem Pratap addressed participants on cardiovascular health. He highlighted major diseases such as Coronary Artery Disease and Ischemic Heart Disease, stressing that risk factors include diabetes, hypertension, smoking, alcohol use, obesity, stress, and sedentary lifestyle.
Dr. Pratap also outlined symptoms commonly associated with heart ailments, including difficulty in breathing, persistent coughing, shortness of breath, and chest pain. He advised that anyone experiencing such discomfort should immediately consult a doctor for timely intervention.
The organisers said the aim of the observance was to promote preventive measures, encourage healthy lifestyles, and raise awareness about the importance of timely medical consultation to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
