World Earth Day observed

Imphal, April 22: As observed all over the world, World Earth Day is also observed in Manipur, today.
Forest and Environment Department observed the day on the theme “Environmental and Climate Literacy” at Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDC) of Konung Mamang in Imphal East.
Speaking at the function, MLA Th Shyamkumar appeals the teachers and students to plant the provided sampling tress at their schools and home.
Shyamkumar also said that discussions are going on with the officials of forest and environment department to save water resources and to protect the forest and environment.
Shyamkumar assured that the state government will take up various steps and measures to save and protect the forest and environment during the observance function of World Earth Day.
G Tomba Sharma, former principle of DM College of Science speaking as a resource person at the function, narrated about the history of world earth day.
Tomba Sharma expresses to the attendee’s school and college students that only human being alone can save the earth planet.
Forest and Environment officer Th Shyamkumar also distributed sampling tress to school and college students who attended the earth day observation.
Minister of Parliamentary Secretary, Home and officials of forest and environment department attended the function.
Earth Day is observed worldwide to demonstrate support for environmental protection with a massage to protect the environment..
The day was proposed at the UNESCO conference in 1969 and the first earth day observation took place in the year 1970.
The campaign theme for this year earth day is Environmental and Climate Literacy.
