Today, the 14th of June is World Blood Donor Day. The event was started in 2005 by a joint initiative from the World Health Organization and the International Red Cross Society to raise awareness about the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank blood donors. The slogan for World Blood Donor Day 2021 is: “Give blood and keep the world-beating”. It emphasize the importance of blood donation and encourages people to come forward to donate blood regularly.
Blood is a necessary resource for many planned treatments and urgent interventions. Blood is necessary for some of the medical treatments on a regular basis. It supports complex medical and surgical procedures. Thus the importance of blood lies in almost all life-saving medical treatments.
Though our medical sciences are in the zenith, no human can create the blood as of now. Blood is the most precious gift that anyone can give to another person–the gift of life. A decision to donate your blood can save a life, or even several if your blood is separated into its components–red cells, platelets, and plasma–which can be used individually for patients with specific conditions. Blood donation is safe for healthy adults. Donating blood may also reduce blood pressure. The latest research finds out regular blood donors live longer than less frequent donors. A new study concludes that regular blood donors are not at a greater risk of premature death than those who rarely donate blood.
Therefore, with the coming of World Blood Donors Day 2021, let’s take part to donate our blood and encourage those who donate blood to save other’s life.
