Villagers of Longjang (Thangal) rally against alleged misuse of MGNREGS funds

Residents of Longjang (Thangal) Village in Noney District staged a mass rally today demanding transparency and accountability over the alleged misappropriation of funds under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) by former Village Authority Chairman Majabut Pamei.
Carrying placards and shouting slogans such as “Where does the material component go?”, “Transparency today, accountability tomorrow”, and “Book the culprit who misused MGNREGS”, the villagers voiced strong concerns about the suspected diversion of public funds meant for rural development and employment generation.
The protesters called for a thorough investigation into the alleged fund mismanagement, specifically demanding clarity on the utilization of MGNREGS material components. They urged the authorities to hold those responsible accountable and initiate legal proceedings.
The villagers also demanded the immediate conduct of Village Authority elections to restore faith in local governance. They stressed the need for a new leadership that is transparent and answerable to the people.
Speaking to media persons during the rally, Angou Pamei Khunpu, a community elder from Longjang (Thangal), called on higher authorities to take swift action against the alleged corruption. He underscored the urgency of addressing the community’s growing discontent over the misuse of development funds.
