First ‘Rural Roots Market’ Launched at Leimapokpam

The Manipur State Rural Livelihoods Mission (MSRLM) under the Department of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Government of Manipur, launched its first ‘Rural Roots Market’ today at Leimapokpam Makha Leikai Community Hall, Nambol.
Organised by Senmitlon Sinnai Village Level Federation (VLF), the market aimed to eliminate middlemen by allowing Self-Help Group (SHG) members to sell products directly to customers at wholesale prices.
Smt. N. Bandana Devi, Secretary of Skill, Labour, Employment & Entrepreneurship and State Mission Director, MSRLM, stated that the market fulfils a long-cherished dream and strengthens grassroots women by connecting them directly with customers. She suggested organising such markets monthly, especially near highways, to boost sales and reduce unsold stock.
Bishnupur Deputy Commissioner Smt. Pooja Elangbam, also District Mission Director, MSRLM, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to rural development. She highlighted the potential for SHG products to reach national and international markets, enhancing livelihoods and marketability.
SHG members shared how MSRLM boosted their confidence and income. A variety of products including handloom, handicrafts, vegetables, jute bags, and local delicacies were showcased.
The event was also attended by DFO Smt. Waikhom Romabai and VLF President Smt. Mutum Bebina Devi.
