The 24 hour general strike called by the VDF has failed to give any impact to the life in Imphal East and West area even as some of the volunteers tried to disrupt traffic at Irilbung and Sawombung area in Imphal East and Poabitek area in Imphal West. Report said that early today morning some of the volunteers came out at the street at Sawombung, Irilbung and Paobitek area and started dismantling some of the vehicles who tried to violate the general strike called. However, police team on duty later drive them away and allowed free flow of traffic in the area.
On the other hand weapons allotted to VDF personnel at Imphal West, Bishnupur District and Churachandpur district have been disarmed by respective Superintendent of Police.
Meanwhile, inter district passenger service vehicles remain suspended during the general strike. The general strike did compel to shut down some of the entertainment houses like Cinema Halls in and around Imphal area, however, most shops and business establishment remain open as usual
The VDF body has been demanding increment to their salary besides creating a separate battalion
