Imphal, Feb 9:
The ongoing conflict in Manipur has left many displaced, forcing them to take shelter in relief camps instead of their homes. To support their resettlement, efforts are being made to facilitate their safe return, stated United People’s Front, Manipur (UPF) President N. Rupachandra. He emphasized that prolonged stay in relief camps has caused distress among the displaced people, making it essential to work towards their rehabilitation.
The statement was made during a Free Health Camp organized by UPF in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Imphal East, and Arambai Tengol Unit 55 at Pukhao Ahallup, a designated red zone in Imphal East district. Speaking at the event, Rupachandra expressed concern over the prolonged crisis since 2023, which has led to mass displacement. He reiterated that while relief camps provided shelter, they are not a long-term solution. Displaced individuals should be able to return home with adequate security, and efforts must be intensified to make this possible.
Specialist Medicine Officer Dr. Maibam Johnson of CMO, Imphal East, stated that the health camp was crucial in addressing the medical needs of the displaced people. Many patients were diagnosed with ailments such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and respiratory issues. The health camp, supported by UPF and Arambai Tengol Unit 55, was aimed at providing essential medical assistance to those affected by the crisis.
The camp saw participation from medical officers, doctors, and staff, offering free check-ups and consultations. Over 80 individuals received medical attention, including treatment for chronic illnesses and general health check-ups. Additionally, Arambai Tengol Unit 55’s 2i/c Nandeibam Kamal also took part in the initiative.
The organizers stated that such health camps will continue, especially in red-zone areas, to ensure healthcare access for displaced individuals.
