The Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) has claimed that one person allegedly posing as a member of the outfit and extorting money from shops and fast-food outlets was apprehended by the public at Checkon on August 29.
In a statement, KCP Media Coordinator A. Luwangba said the individual, identified as Yensenbam Rajesh alias Khana Meitei, son of Y. Tomba Meitei and Y. (O) Tampha Leima of Wangkhem Mamang Leikai, was allegedly collecting money from businesses in the name of the KCP and its armed wing, Miyamgi Fingang Lanmi (MFL).
According to the statement, the accused was caught at Kok Sam Fast-food at Checkon after allegedly approaching the outlet and asking for financial assistance. The KCP said the individual had no authorisation from the organisation and that his alleged activities were intended to defame the party.
Luwangba said the KCP welcomed the public’s action in apprehending individuals allegedly engaged in such activities, while cautioning that the party would not be able to protect anyone misusing its name without authorisation.
The KCP further urged the public to cooperate with its stated “people’s struggle” and said financial assistance should be provided only when an authorised letter bearing the party’s letterhead is produced.
