A series of incidents including a bomb blast at the office premises of a student body inside the DM University complex, followed by the burning of CSOs offices located in various parts of Imphal has rocked Imphal amidst the ongoing conflict between Kuki –Zo community and the Meitei people.
Two students sustained injury at the blast that occurred at around 10 pm yesterday at the office complex of a student body inside the DMU complex. Among them, one student identified as Oinam Kenegy (24) succumbed to injury while another identified as Salam Michael (24) is currently undergoing treatment at Raj Mdicity Hospital. Video of the blasts captured on CCTV went viral on social media. Source with the police suggested that the blast was triggered using remote control.
At around 11.30 pm some unidentified persons burnt the office of the United Committee Manipur located at Lamphel. Around the same time, office of the Coalitions Against Drug and Alcohol (CADA) located at Pureiromba Khongnagkhong, MAPI Council office Manipur at Wangkhei, and Macha Leima at Palace Compound in Imphal East district. A vehicle was also burnt at Mayai Lambi road near Keishampat Laishom Leirak by miscreants. Around the same time unknown miscreants also blasted a bomb at the residence of an individual at Tera Yengkhom Leirak. However, no one was reported injured in the blast.
Meanwhile, the president of the MACHA LEIMA office Wangkheimayum Amusana while talking to media persons today afternoon said that materials and documents related to the Micro Finance activities of the office have been completely destroyed by the miscreants. Quoting the locals of the area she said that those miscreants came with armed and ammunitions carrying petrol.
Besides burning the office building of the Macha Leima, the armed miscreants took 5 LPG cylinders, Computer sets, and even cooking utensils. She said that notebooks and uniforms for the students were also burnt. Clothes and other materials were taken by the miscreants. Amusana said that the 55-year-old MACHA Leima has no enemies and the office bearers have no knowledge of who was behind the burning and looting of the office. She strongly condemns such acts and urges all individuals involved in the crime to clarify.
