Imphal, Sept 27:
The United National Liberation Front (UNLF) has denied any involvement in the recent physical assault of Wilubou Maringmei from Kanglatongbi. In a statement issued by M. Shak-Hen, Secretary of Publicity for UNLF, the outfit clarified that it had no connection to the incident and condemned the actions of the perpetrators.
According to the statement, the UNLF expressed deep concern over a report released by the Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi Manipur (LNKRM), which claimed that Wilubou Maringmei was severely assaulted by two individuals impersonating UNLF members near the Sekmai LPG Gas Plant. The UNLF denounced this behavior, especially given the ongoing ethnic tensions in the region, which they attributed to India’s alleged proxy war through Kuki militants targeting the Meitei community.
The outfit reiterated its commitment to communal harmony and peaceful coexistence among the indigenous communities of Manipur, stating that it would never engage in actions that could harm the relationships between different ethnic groups. The UNLF also warned of the presence of rogues and renegades, allegedly supported by Indian forces, who aim to provoke communal conflict and disrupt the unity of the people.
In their appeal, the UNLF urged the Liangmei community, particularly LNKRM, to remain vigilant and composed in the face of such provocations, stressing the importance of unity to counteract divisive forces that threaten the social fabric of Manipur.
