Imphal, Sept 30:
In commemoration of the 128th birth anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot, members of the United Committee Manipur (UCM) today released around 5,100 small fish at the historic Kekrupat, with assistance from the Fishery Department. Kekrupat is a memorial site dedicated to the martyrs who laid down their lives during the June 18 uprising in 2001.
Speaking at the event, UCM President YK Dhiren condemned the government’s negotiations for the release of one of the terrorists in NIA custody, which involved taking two individuals hostage and then releasing one of them.
Furthermore, President YK Dhiren expressed serious concern regarding the act of terrorism, stating that such bargaining reflects the Indian government’s attitude towards Manipur and the ongoing conflict. He noted that many Kuki militants continue to pose a threat to the security of the region, as they remain active despite the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement. He emphasized that groups involved in hostage situations are threatening the lives of innocent people.
He called on the Indian Home Minister to take stronger action to address these issues, pointing out that the treatment of Manipur by the Indian government needs urgent attention. He expressed concern that if the Indian government does not take decisive steps in response to the ongoing hostage crises, it could lead to further tragic incidents.
President Dhiren concluded by stressing that both the Manipur and Indian governments must urgently address these pressing issues to prevent further unrest and ensure the safety of their citizens.
