Uripok Apunba Lup (UAL) and Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup (UNAL) today demanded adequate compensation for the victims of the Tronglaobi bomb blast, stating that the ex-gratia announced by the State Government has failed to satisfy public expectations.
Speaking to media persons, Khwairakpam Tarunkumar, Vice President of UAL said that the families of the two victims—five-year-old Tomthin Oinam and five-month-old Leisana Oinam—deserve proper compensation, as both the State and Central governments had failed in their responsibility to protect the lives and liberty of citizens. He maintained that financial relief in the form of ex-gratia alone is insufficient in such grave circumstances.
He further warned that UAL and the UNAL would approach appropriate legal forums, including the High Court of Manipur, if the government fails to address the demands.
Khwairakpam Tarunkumar also called for a judicial inquiry into the killing of four civilians—Wahengbam Bobby (29) of Kumbi Tera Khong Ward No. 7, Laishram Jiten (41) of Top Waikhurok, and Huidrom Micheal (31) of Tera Lukram Leirak—allegedly due to indiscriminate firing by CRPF personnel. He stated that the inquiry should be conducted by a retired High Court judge or a District and Sessions Judge to ensure accountability and transparency.
On the investigation into the Tronglaobi incident, he stated that merely announcing the transfer of the case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is not sufficient. He demanded that official documentation confirming the handover be made public and insisted that the case be charge-sheeted and concluded within a fixed timeframe.
Reiterating the organisation’s stand, Khwairakpam Tarunkumar stated that justice must be ensured through concrete action, warning that failure to do so would compel UAL and UNAL to seek legal recourse.
