Unknown persons hurled a hand grenade at the gate of a house at Koirengei Nepali Basti under Heingang Police Station around 6 am today, creating panic among residents.
The grenade was reportedly thrown at the residence of 40-year-old Gurumayum Kanak Kumar Sharma, son of G. Brojendro Sharma. The explosive landed near the gate of the house, which is reportedly located near Ply Factory.
A note bearing the words “this is my last warning” was also found along with the grenade, according to police sources.
Following the incident, Heingang Police Station registered a suo motu case and initiated an investigation to identify those responsible and ascertain the motive behind the attack.
The grenade was subsequently removed and disposed of by the Bomb Disposal Squad of the CID Technical team at around 8.50 am at Heingang Chingol, police said.
No casualty or property damage was reported in the incident. The attack has raised security concerns in the area, with police continuing efforts to determine whether the warning was directed specifically at the house owner or linked to any wider threat.
