MACR condemns bomb attack killing two children, seeks swift action

The Manipur Alliance for Child Rights (MACR) has strongly condemned the recent bomb attack in the state that claimed the lives of two children, describing the incident as a grave violation of child rights and humanity.
In a press statement, Convenor Montu Ahanthem expressed deep shock and anguish over the incident, stating that the killing of innocent children in any form of violence is unacceptable and amounts to a direct assault on their rights, dignity and safety. He conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and stated that the organisation stands in solidarity with them and all those affected by the continuing violence.
Montu Ahanthem urged the Government of Manipur and law enforcement agencies to take immediate and decisive steps to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack at the earliest. He cautioned that any delay in delivering justice would further increase public distress and weaken trust in the rule of law.
He further called on the authorities to ensure strict legal action against all those involved, strengthen security measures to safeguard children and civilians, provide immediate assistance and compensation to the affected families, and take urgent steps to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
Stating that children must never become victims of violence or conflict, Montu Ahanthem added that the State has both a constitutional and moral responsibility to ensure a safe and secure environment for every child. He also reiterated MACR’s commitment to protecting child rights and appealed to all stakeholders, including the government, civil society and the public, to collectively reject violence against children.
