The Manipur Police have arrested two individuals suspected of involvement in the ongoing protests in Thoubal district. The arrests were made on September 11, following specific inputs, from the southern side of Sanjenthong under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East District.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Laishram Roshan Singh (26), a resident of Khangabok Tangkha Leikai, and Moirangthem Bumbum Singh (21) of Khangabok Meisnam Leikai. During the arrest, a live tear gas shell was recovered from the suspects.
In a separate operation, the police conducted search operations and area domination exercises in vulnerable areas between the hills and valleys, particularly in Churachandpur district’s Shejang area. The police recovered significant weapons, including one 7.5 feet rocket, a modified M-16 rifle, a large country-made mortar, a medium-sized mortar, three bomb launchers, and three country-made bombs.
In addition to these operations, security personnel ensured the safe movement of 262 and 95 vehicles carrying essential items along National Highways 37 and 2, respectively. To maintain security, 110 checkpoints were set up across various districts of Manipur, both in the hill and valley regions. Five individuals were detained for violating security measures in different districts.
Authorities have heightened security across vulnerable locations, providing convoys in sensitive areas to ensure the free movement of vehicles amidst the ongoing unrest.
