NIPCO observes 24th Foundation Day, calls for government action amid ongoing conflict

Imphal, Sept 13:

The National Identity Protection Council (NIPCO) celebrated its 24th Foundation Day at the Manipur Press Club in Imphal. During the event, Oinam Premjit, President of NIPCO, emphasized the sacrifices made by individuals who laid down their lives to protect the motherland, paying tribute to those lost in the ongoing conflict.
Premjit highlighted the violence that has plagued Manipur since May 3 of last year, citing numerous fatalities and injuries caused by targeted attacks carried out by Kuki militants. These assaults, he noted, involved drones and coordinated aerial and ground offensives against several Meitei settlements.
In his address, Premjit urged both the Indian and Manipur governments to prioritize finding a peaceful resolution to the crisis. He criticized the government’s inability to safeguard the lives and property of its citizens, stating, “If the government cannot protect the lives and property of its people, there is no need for it.” He also condemned what he called a “divide and rule” policy, which he believes has worsened the situation.
Premjit further accused the Assam Rifles of openly supporting Kuki militants, a stance he claims has led to a loss of public trust in the paramilitary force. He warned that if the conflict continues unresolved, Manipur risks facing further devastation.
The event was attended by N. Rupachandra, President of UPF Manipur; Hijam Priyokumar, President of CADA; and other members of the presidium. The leaders collectively called for urgent government intervention to bring lasting peace to the region.
