In a devastating accident, four individuals, including two women, a young girl, and a man, lost their lives, while six others sustained injuries, some in critical condition, after a Bolero Camper pickup they were traveling in met with a fatal crash. The incident occurred around 12:15 PM on the Poi-Awangkasom road via Nungbi village.
According to sources from the accident site, the tragedy has once again highlighted the dangerous and poorly maintained road conditions in the region. Locals allege that the authorities’ negligence and failure to ensure road safety have directly contributed to this heartbreaking disaster.
Eno. Paomi Khaveishang, President of Raphei Katamnao Long (RKL), has issued a strong statement demanding urgent intervention. “This tragic loss of life is a painful reminder of the unacceptable risks posed by inadequate infrastructure. We call upon the concerned departments to take immediate action. Delays or inaction will no longer be tolerated, as the lives of our people cannot be put in jeopardy,” he stated, urging authorities to conduct a comprehensive road assessment and implement necessary repairs to prevent further loss of life.
The deceased victims have been identified as Qlr. Martha Alingwon, Chairperson of the Church Women’s Association and wife of Wungmareo Alungnao; Qrl. Yaruichon NS, Church Women Secretary; Ql. Peacenao Raising, daughter of Lt. Somi Raising; and Qr. Mazanthei Maluk, husband of Shinmila Maluk.
The injured individuals include Qr. Shangreihao A. Shatsang, Qrl. Chonreishon M. Shimray (female), Ql. Ngachonwom (female), Qr. Kashangmi Shimrah (male), and Qr. Chihanngam Bukli (male).
The victims were traveling from Poi towards Nungbi when their journey was tragically cut short on the dangerous Poi-Awangkasom road. As grieving families mourn their losses, the community is demanding justice and immediate infrastructural reforms to prevent such disasters in the future.
