TIM meets senior BJP leaders, calls for restoration of democratic governance and support for peace efforts

The Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM), the apex body of the Thadou community, held a brief meeting this morning at Hotel Imphal with B.L. Santhosh, National General Secretary (Organisation) of the Bharatiya Janata Party, and Dr. Sambit Patra, Member of Parliament and BJP Coordinator for the North East. During the meeting, TIM submitted a memorandum outlining concerns over Manipur’s political situation and urging renewed support for grassroots peace initiatives.
According to TIM, the memorandum called for immediate restoration of political stability and the reinstatement of a democratically elected government, stating that the BJP’s majority position enables it to revive governance following an extended period of President’s Rule. The organisation also highlighted the ongoing Thadou Peace Initiative, which has been working with major civil society groups and Meitei counterparts to reduce tensions and facilitate dialogue.
TIM further urged protection for peace activists who have reportedly faced threats from elements opposed to dialogue. It also appealed to the BJP central leadership to address internal discord and take action against any legislators allegedly involved in instigating mob unrest, arguing that accountability is essential to restoring public trust.
The memorandum requested that representatives of the Thadou community be included as stakeholders in future government-led negotiations. TIM also sought parliamentary action to remove the “Any Kuki tribes” (AKT) category from the Scheduled Tribes List of Manipur, describing it as a redundant inclusion made in 2003 and asserting that its deletion would uphold fairness, national security, and administrative integrity. The organisation noted that the current BJP-led state government has already recommended rectifying the issue.
TIM stated that while no concrete breakthrough has yet emerged, its mediation attempts have helped open communication channels between the Meitei community and Kuki subscribers.
Both B.L. Santhosh and Dr. Sambit Patra acknowledged TIM’s peace initiatives and described the organisation as a constructive force in Manipur. They conveyed that restoring an elected government remains a priority and extended their best wishes to the TIM leadership.
TIM expressed gratitude for the engagement and reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with all stakeholders, government institutions, and community organisations toward building trust and establishing lasting peace in the state.
