The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Manipur has suspended Assistant Registrar Laikangbam Dorendro Singh on Thursday over charges of financial irregularities and misconduct. The order came into effect immediately.
According to NIT Manipur, charges against the official include alleged misuse of position, violation of financial propriety norms and conduct inconsistent with the standards expected of an employee. The Board of Governors had reviewed the case in its 36th and 45th meetings earlier this year before recommending suspension pending disciplinary proceedings.
The institute said the action was taken in view of the fact that a free and fair investigation could not be conducted with him continuing in service.
The terms of suspension state that Dorendro Singh cannot leave the station without prior written permission from the higher officials and will be given subsistence allowance as prescribed under government rules. He will be under the administrative control of the Director, NIT Manipur, during his period of suspension.
NIT Manipur clarified that the suspension was a procedural step and did not amount to a determination of guilt. Further action will be taken in accordance with the Central Civil Services – Classification, Control & Appeal Rules, 1965.
A copy of the order has been formally issued to the Ministry of Education and the NIT Manipur administration.
