Imphal, Feb 22:
Around three thousand strong have marched in Imphal East today advocating for the abrogation of the Suspension of Operations (SOO). The rally, organized by the Village Protection Force (VPF), Eramdam Kanba Lup (EKAL), The United Committee of Pukhao, and Makeng Dolaithabi GP, Imphal East, commenced from Sambei ground. However, SP K Megha Chandra, along with additional forces, halted the rally near Sainik School in Pangei.
Subsequently, a 15-member team was granted permission to meet with the governor. This team submitted a memorandum to the governor, forwarding another to the Union Home Minister. Later, a public meeting was also conducted at Pangei ground.
In the memorandum, the organizers on behalf of the people of Manipur, raised the urgent necessity to abrogate the Suspension of Operation (SOO) between the Government of India (GOI) and 24 Kuki Militant Groups to reinstate normalcy in Manipur while highlighting violations of the SOO agreements by Kuki militant groups since the onset of the crisis on May 3, 2023.
The memorandum also alleged that SOO cadres are implicated in the ongoing conflict, drug trafficking, and narco-terrorism. It discussed the establishment of a ‘Golden Triangle’ in Manipur and the influx of Chin Kuki Zo immigrants from Myanmar, resulting in demographic changes and unauthorized Kuki villages.
Furthermore, the memorandum asserted evidence of foreign Chin Kuki Zo militant groups supporting SOO cadres, posing a threat to India’s internal security emphasizing the challenges faced by the people of Manipur, including highway blockades and various harassments by SOO cadres.
Lastly, the memorandum appealed for the abrogation of the Suspension of Operation with Kuki militants and the expulsion of foreign narco-terrorists from Indian soil. It emphasized that this step is crucial to ending the nine-month-long conflict and ensuring the security of the country.
