Imphal, Nov 11:
A group of ten Kuki MLAs from Manipur issued a joint statement on Saturday, refuting claims made by the Solicitor General of India in the Supreme Court that Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has been meeting with Kuki representatives to restore peace in the state. The MLAs allege that this statement is “a blatant lie” and misleading to the court.
The MLAs, who represent constituencies predominantly in Kuki-majority areas, clarified that they have not met with Chief Minister N. Biren Singh since May 3, 2023, nor do they intend to meet him in the future. In their statement, they accuse N. Biren Singh of being “the mastermind behind the violence and ethnic cleansing” against the Kuki community in the Imphal valley, which they claim continues unabated. The statement highlighted the recent killing of a woman, Zosangkim Hmar, on November 7, as an example of the ongoing violence.
Additionally, the MLAs condemned what they described as the “unprofessional conduct” of the Solicitor General for submitting unverified claims before the Supreme Court. They also criticized the government’s failure to prevent violence despite the heavy deployment of security forces in conflict-affected areas such as Jiribam district.
The statement was signed by MLAs Haokholet Kipgen, Letpao Haokip, Nemcha Kipgen, Ngursanglur Sanate, Paolenlal Haokip, L.M. Khaute, Letzamang Haokip, Chinlunthang, Kimneo Haokip Hangshing, and Vungzagin Valte, representing various constituencies across Manipur.
