State pays homage to the six slain AR soldiers today

 “We will not spare anybody who is against the nation”- Ibobi

Imphal, May 24: Chief Minister O. Ibobi, after paying floral tribute to the six AR personnel who were killed in the ambush between Hangsi and Joupi village in Chandel District on Sunday at Imphal Airport (12 Bihar Battalion HQ) today, condemned the unfortunate incident in the strongest terms, stating that the act was a cowardly one the entire country should join in the condemnation, adding that the perpetrators of the heinous crime will not be spared. Deputy CM Gaikhangam and many other top ranking officers of the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, BSF and Paramilitary force were also present at the venue to pay their last respect and tribute to the six soldiers, including a JCO who lost their lives. DGP of Manipur Police LM Khaute and many other civil officers also came to pay tribute to the slain soldiers. A special flight arranged to carry the bodies of the departed souls took the bodies to their respective birth places after the floral tribute.
The six slain personnel, Subedar Baldev Kumar Sharma from Himachal Pradesh, Havildar Surjit Barla from Jharkhand, Rifleman Pawan Kumar from J&K, Rifleman Mahesh Gurung from Uttarakhand, Rifleman Bhupinder Singh from Himachal Pradesh and Rifleman Akhilesh Kumar Pandey from Bihar were all part of the team led by Commanding Officer of 29 AR which had an encounter with insurgents near Joupi under Tengnoupal PS in Chandel District on 22 May and the team was returning back to the Battalion Headquarters at Joupi after assessing a landslide in the area near Hollengjang when the ambush happened.
GOC of Indian Army, Sphere Core Lt Gen Abhay Krishna said, most of the time, in every war, one that attacks first has a better chance of winning the particular battle. A search operation is underway in the area of ambush. Even though it was a great loss to the Indian Army and many are remaining dejected, the Indian Army will not take it as a defeat but only serves to strengthen the resolve of the Indian Armed Forces to carry out relentless operations against these anti-national elements for furtherance of peace in the region and that those responsible for the ambush will face vengeance soon, the GOC asserted.
