The State paid a solemn tribute to the late SDPO Chingtham Anand, whose life was tragically cut short by the hands of Kuki Militants in Moreh. The setting for this poignant event was the 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles Ground in the heart of Imphal, where a somber atmosphere hung heavy.
Among the distinguished attendees were Manipur’s Chief Minister, N. Biren Singh, alongside Ministers and MLAs, who gathered to pay their respects. With heavy hearts and a profound sense of loss, they reverently placed garlands upon the coffin of the valiant Moreh Office-in-Charge, Chingtham Anand.
The emotion-laden ceremony extended its reach to the ranks of Manipur Police officers, among them the celebrated former world boxing champion, Sarita Devi. Her voice quivered, and tears welled up in her eyes as she too offered her heartfelt tribute by adorning the mortal remains of Chingtham Anand with a garland, a symbol of the collective grief and respect felt by all.
However, the poignant gathering highlighted a stark reality. It has been almost half a year since violence first erupted in Manipur, and despite the government’s assurances of returning normalcy and claiming that 90 percent of peace has been restored, the situation remains far from controlled. The inability to quell the persistent unrest casts a long shadow over the promises of peace and stability in the region.
