Prolonged ban on internet data service angered Naga youths; Rongmei body begins indefinite Economic Blockade on NH-37

Rongmei Naga Youth Organization has begun an indefinite Economic Blockade on National Highway-37 (Imphal -Jiri road) from today after the State government has failed to comply with the agreement for the lifting of internet data service assured to the representatives of All Naga Students’ Association Manipur (ANSAM). The organisation has also banned all National projects being underway in Tamenlong and Noney districts.
Report said the decision to impose an indefinite economic blockade at NH 37 and to ban all National projects in the so-called Rongmei area was taken in a national assembly held yesterday at Tamenglong district headquarters.
“We will neither retreat from our decision not talk with the government of Manipur until the ban on data internet service is lifted from the hill districts which are not affected by the ongoing conflict”, the Rongmei Naga body told in a statement.
According to the organization the agreement reached between the government of Manipur and ANSAM was lapsed on Oct. 31, and as the govt. has failed to execute the agreement, the Rongmei Naga Youth Body is left with no choice but to support the ANSAM.
Mentioned may be made that besides the assurance given to the ANSAM for consideration to the lifting of the ban on data internet service, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh during a public meeting held at Ukhrul on Oct.18 had assured to lift the ban on internet within 3/4 days.
Data internet service has been banned in Manipur since May in the aftermath of the conflict in Manipur. However, the ban on broadband service has been lifted.
