Imphal, Dec. 24:
A sit-in protest was held today at Langthabal Mantri Khong Awang Leikai Community Hall to raise concerns about the alleged mishandling of the Khul Ngakpa (Village Defenders) and the perceived misrepresentation of their role at Salungpham in Thoubal district.
Organized by the Young Future Organisation (YFO) under the aegis of the Indigenous People’s Association of Kangleipak (IPAK), the protest saw active participation from community leaders, cultural activists, and concerned citizens.
Prominent speakers at the event included Ch. Pakpi, President of CLK; Ksh. Somorendro, President of IPAK; and Shanta Nahakpam, General Secretary of UCM.
The speakers emphasized the critical role of village defenders in preserving the cultural and social fabric of indigenous communities. They expressed grave concerns over what they described as distortions and misrepresentations that could undermine the cultural identity and integrity of Manipur.
The leaders called for unity and collective efforts to safeguard the cultural legacy and traditional practices of indigenous communities. They also appealed to the authorities and the public to take prompt measures to address these issues and ensure respect for indigenous roles and customs.
