Imphal, May 5:
In a week-long counter-insurgency drive between April 27 and May 4, security forces led by the Indian Army’s Spear Corps, in coordination with Assam Rifles, Manipur Police, CRPF, BSF, and ITBP, conducted intensive intelligence-based operations across the districts of Kakching, Tengnoupal, Bishnupur, and Kangpokpi.
The operations resulted in the apprehension of 17 insurgent cadres from hill and valley-based groups. A substantial cache of arms was seized, including 31 weapons, 14 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), grenades, ammunition, and other warlike materials.
In Kakching, a joint operation in Moltingcham village led to the recovery of four weapons, grenades, and improvised launchers. On the same day, six IEDs were discovered during an area domination patrol in T Minou, Tengnoupal.
On April 29, coordinated operations in Tengnoupal, Bishnupur, and Kangpokpi led to the destruction of militant bunkers and the recovery of various firearms, including SLRs, pistols, carbines, and improvised mortars. A hidden cache of four weapons was also found in the dense jungles of Phaileng, Kangpokpi.
Further recoveries were made on April 30 and May 1, including INSAS rifles, .22 rifles, single-barrel guns, and ammunition. The latest operation on May 4 near Ningthoukhong in Bishnupur yielded eight more weapons and explosives.
All apprehended individuals and recovered materials were handed over to Manipur Police.
Security sources stated that these operations reflect the ongoing commitment of security forces to restore peace and neutralize threats in conflict-hit areas of Manipur. The series of successful recoveries and arrests highlights increased coordination among security agencies amid continued ethnic and insurgent tensions in the state.
