Imphal, Nov 12:
State police announced today that combined security forces, including the Assam Rifles, CRPF, and Manipur Police, are actively pursuing suspected Kuki-Hmar militants in an effort to rescue six missing individuals, including women and minors, who were reportedly taken captive during a recent violent clash in Borobekra Sub-division, Jiribam District.
The captives, comprising a minor girl and several women, were reportedly seized by militants during an intense encounter with security forces that led to the death of 10 insurgents. “These militants cannot be considered mere village defenders as weapons recovered from them include AK rifles, SLRs, and other sophisticated firearms, in addition to combat gear,” a top police official stated in Imphal. The official emphasized that swift intervention by security forces likely prevented greater violence in Jiribam, which could have resulted in more civilian harm.
Addressing reporters, the police official confirmed that, as of now, there is no indication the missing captives have been harmed. “The security forces will persist in the search until all six individuals are found,” the official assured.
In response to the Kuki Students’ Organization’s (KSO) demands for the CRPF to withdraw from Kuki-majority areas, the police reiterated that security forces are operating in the region to ensure national safety. “Each unit has its own strategic mandate for the protection of the country,” the police official added, underscoring the commitment of security forces to restore order and protect civilians.
