Jiribam, Nov 12
In a violent confrontation on Monday, suspected Kuki-Zo militants clashed with CRPF personnel in the Borobekra Sub-division of Jiribam District. During the clash, Kuki militants killed two innocent Meitei civilians and left six others unaccounted for.
During the gunfight, CRPF forces engaged the militants, reportedly killing ten of them, while one CRPF jawan sustained a bullet injury. However, the situation escalated as militants targeted Meitei shops and homes in the Jakuradhor area, setting several ablaze.
The two civilians killed by Kuki militants have been identified as 66-year-old Laishram Baren Meitei and 77-year-old Maibam Keshwo Singh, both from Modhupur village in Borobekra Sub-division. Their bodies were discovered early Tuesday morning.
Two other individuals, Pebam Rajkumar and Oinam Thonglan Singh, have returned safely after finding shelter during the militant attack on Monday. However, reports indicate that four Meitei women and two minor children are still missing and are believed to have been taken captive by the Kuki militants.
The situation remains tense as security personnel continue search operations in the area to locate and rescue the missing individuals.
Meanwhile, the Jiribam district administration on Monday issued orders prohibiting assembly of five or more persons which is likely to turn unlawful and “movement of any person outside their respective residences”.
