Imphal, Sept 29:
Social and political activist Sapam Kangleipal announced today that he and his team will begin purchasing products made by Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Churachandpur, aiming to support their livelihood by helping sell the goods. Speaking at a press briefing held at the Manipur Press Club, Kangleipal acknowledged the challenges faced by his small, independent team but affirmed their commitment to starting this initiative.
The political activist revealed that the initial focus will be on purchasing items such as candles, detergent powder, and dishwashing liquid, which are currently being produced by the displaced Meitei community from Churachandpur. He further clarified that while the detergent powder and dishwashing liquid will be sourced from relief camps, these products will be the first to be sold under the initiative, with distribution supported by the Meitei Ethnic Class Victim Committee of Churachandpur.
Kangleipal mentioned that the first batch of products will be available for sale on the upcoming full moon day, followed by a second batch scheduled for release on the 17th of the same month. He emphasized that purchasing these goods is not only crucial to support the displaced Meitei community but also essential in ensuring that no one is left behind during these difficult times.
Despite the challenges, Kangleipal expressed optimism, believing that through collective effort and mutual understanding, the situation will improve. He urged the public to support the initiative, adding that this effort will raise awareness and attract further assistance. Currently, candles, detergent powder, and dishwashing liquid are the primary products available for purchase, with the latter two items provided by relief camps.
