The Sadar Hills Chief’s Association (SAHILCA) has issued a formal summons to the Chairmen and Secretaries of eight Nepali villages in Kangpokpi district, calling them to appear at the association’s office in Kangpokpi town at 11 am on May 29.
The villages named in the summons include Chahajari, Motbung, Koubru Leikai, Toribari, Kalapahar, Irang Part-I and II, and Persian Nepali. The directive comes in the wake of a recent press release by the All Gorkha Union, Manipur, which the association has taken strong exception to.
SAHILCA has warned that failure to comply with the summons may result in action from the association, raising concerns about rising tensions in the area. While the content of the All Gorkha Union’s statement has not been officially detailed, sources suggest it may have touched upon issues of local governance and territorial rights, triggering the response from the Sadar Hills leadership.
No comments have been issued yet by the All Gorkha Union or representatives from the summoned villages. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation given the sensitive nature of inter-community relations in the region.
