The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, has constituted a four-member enquiry committee to investigate the death of Thokchom Ongbi Binaroi, 25, following childbirth at the institute.
According to a statement issued by the RIMS Media Cell, a post-mortem examination is scheduled for today to help establish the cause of death. The committee is expected to submit its report within three working days, after which appropriate action will be taken based on its findings.
RIMS said the incident would be examined objectively and urged people to avoid speculation until the enquiry and post-mortem findings are available.
The institute also condemned the damage to public property on its premises, stating that vandalism could disrupt essential healthcare services and affect other patients. While acknowledging the grief of the bereaved family, it appealed to all concerned to maintain peace and allow the established procedures to take their course.
