In a follow-up to Operation Sindoor, the Indian Army has issued a formal statement confirming retaliatory action against Pakistani military targets in response to an attempted large-scale aerial strike by Pakistan on the night of May 7-8, 2025.
During a press briefing held on May 7, India had clearly described its actions under Operation Sindoor as “focused, measured, and non-escalatory,” affirming that Pakistani military installations had not been targeted. It was also stated that any future attacks on Indian military assets would compel an appropriate response.
Despite these assurances, Pakistan launched coordinated drone and missile attacks against Indian military sites across Northern and Western India, including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Chandigarh, and several other locations. These threats were swiftly neutralised by India’s Integrated Counter-UAS Grid and Air Defence systems. Debris recovered from various sites confirms Pakistan’s offensive actions.
In response, Indian Armed Forces conducted targeted strikes on Pakistani Air Defence radars and systems, maintaining proportionality and remaining within the same operational domain. An Air Defence system in Lahore has been confirmed neutralised.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has intensified unprovoked mortar and heavy artillery shelling across the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the tragic loss of sixteen Indian civilian lives, including women and children. The Indian Army was left with no choice but to respond in kind to suppress further aggression.
Reaffirming its commitment to peace and non-escalation, the Indian Armed Forces stated that this posture will be maintained, provided it is reciprocated by the Pakistani military.
