Imphal, Jan 8:
Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader and former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi has stated that true normalcy cannot return to Manipur unless the internally displaced persons (IDPs) are allowed to return to their respective homes. He made this remark while addressing reporters after a meeting with Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla.
Okram Ibobi, accompanied by a team from the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), met the Governor to discuss the ongoing crisis in the state and presented suggestions for resolving the issues.
During the meeting, Ibobi emphasized that simply maintaining an absence of violence while keeping displaced people confined to relief camps is not a sign of peace. “Normalcy will only return when those living in relief camps are able to safely return to their homes,” he remarked.
The delegation included MPCC President Keisham Meghachandra, Deputy CLP Leader K. Ranjit, Congress Legislature Party Chief Whip Th. Lokeshwar, Congress MP Dr. Bimol Akoijam, and Congress MLA Surjakumar Okram. Together, they urged the Governor to take steps to restore peace in Manipur and ensure the safety and rehabilitation of displaced individuals.
Okram Ibobi also conveyed that the Congress Party is committed to aiding in the resolution of the crisis. He stressed the importance of addressing the challenges faced by those in relief camps and expediting the resettlement of IDPs in their native places.
The delegation further called for collaborative efforts to prevent any recurrence of the crisis and ensure sustainable peace. The Governor reportedly expressed willingness to consider the Congress Party’s suggestions to aid in resolving the state’s ongoing issues.
