State Police have intensified combing operations, recovered multiple weapons and ammunition, and deployed anti-drone systems in affected areas. The state police also has issued a public notice.
The public notice by the state police came in light of renewed attacks by Kuki militants. On September 6, 2024, Kuki militants launched a series of attacks in the border areas between Bishnupur and Churachandpur, resulting in a civilian death and multiple injuries. Rockets were fired at Moirang Khoiru Leikai, leading to the death of 78-year-old senior citizen RK Rabei and injuries to six others. In response, security forces led by the SP of Bishnupur conducted combing operations, destroying two bunkers in Molsang village and another at Laika Mualsau village. Military helicopters were deployed for aerial patrolling, while senior officers, including IGP and DIGP, arrived to control the volatile situation.
Later that evening, according to Manipur Police, miscreants attempted to loot arms from security posts in Khabeisoi and Imphal. The combined forces dispersed the mob using tear gas and blank rounds, during which two police personnel were injured in a subsequent attack.
In the early hours of September 7, suspected Kuki militants attacked Nungchappi village in Jiribam, killing 63-year-old Yurembam Kulendra Singha. Another attack at Rasidpur claimed the life of Baspatimayum Lakhi Kumar Sharma. Security forces retaliated and discovered three dead bodies of suspected militants.
According to Manipur Police, it is also monitoring social media for misinformation and have urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with security forces.
