Armed Kuki militants escalate attacks to civilians in multiple districts

IT News
Imphal, Sept 7:

Amid ongoing failures by Central security forces and the state police to control violence, armed Kuki militants continued their assault on civilian villages in the Bishnupur, Jiribam, and Kakching districts of Manipur. The attackers, using sophisticated weapons and rocket bombs, have intensified their attacks, leaving a trail of casualties.
On Friday afternoon, at approximately 3:30 p.m., militants launched a long-range improvised rocket at Moirang Mairembam on Sendra Road in Bishnupur district. The attack resulted in one fatality and left at least six people injured. The incident has heightened concerns about the safety of civilians as the violence spreads across multiple regions.
Earlier today, at around 5:00 a.m., Kuki militants entered the home of 63-year-old Yurembam Phulendra in Jiribam District and fatally shot him in the head while he was sleeping. Phulendra’s wife and daughter managed to flee to a nearby village upon hearing the gunfire. The killing occurred in the Ningthem Khunou locality of Ningthembam village, about 5 kilometers from the Jiribam District headquarters.
Reports also indicate that Kuki militants have been targeting village volunteers. During a confrontation, one village volunteer was killed, while retaliatory fire resulted in the deaths of three Kuki militants. The ongoing clashes between militants and local volunteers have added to the region’s instability.
In a further escalation of violence, militants fired upon Napet village in the Sugnu area around 10:00 a.m. today. The attack has intensified the ongoing unrest, with residents in affected areas living under constant threat.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and adhere to safety advisories as the situation develops. The lack of a decisive response from security forces has raised concerns about the state’s ability to restore peace and protect its civilians.
As the violence continues to escalate, the safety of civilians in conflict zones remains precarious. Local residents have voiced their frustration at the government’s failure to protect them, and tensions are likely to rise as the conflict intensifies.
